One of my favorite things to do before the start of the New Year is to clean and de-clutter. There is just something about starting every January 1st off with a fresh, clean home! The first place I begin my cleaning frenzy is my closet! So today, I am going to share my top three tips to declutter your closet.

1. IF IT DOESN’T FIT, YOU WON’T WEAR IT

I think we all have that pair of jeans that we love, but have sat in the back of the closet waiting for us to lose those last 5 pounds. However, a whole year (maybe two…maybe five) has gone by and they still just don’t fit right. It’s OK to let them go. Let those jeans bring joy to someone new!

2. IF YOU HAVEN’T WORN IT…YOU WON’T WEAR IT!

It may have looked great in the store, or maybe you were thinking, “I may need this for a special occasion someday.”  Give yourself a cutoff time, say 6 months or a year.  If you haven’t worn it in that long, you probably never will.  Consider selling on one of the social commercial marketplaces such as Poshmark or ThredUp.  Someone else will get a great piece at a discounted price and you will get a little cash in your pocket.

3. DONATION, DONATION, DONATION!

Whatever you do, DO NOT take those unwanted clothes to the garbage can…even if it’s your old grungy t-shirt! There are plenty of people that are in need of clothes. Organizations such as Salvation Army or Good Will are great options for clothing donation or you can check with a local church! So what are you waiting for?! Take that pile of clothes, bag them up and drop them off at the nearest donation bin OR schedule a free pickup!

It’s hard to believe we have FINALLY made it to the last week of the year! We hope you’ve all enjoyed the Holiday’s so far, and were able to sneak in some (much-needed) family time…even if it was outside with masks on. I think it’s safe to say that 2020 has been quite a rollercoaster, and we’re all looking forward to ringing in the New Year! What are some things on your to do list before the new year begins? We’d love to hear from you in the comments below!
